Phospho(enol)pyruvic acid (PEP)cyclohexylammonium salt is involved in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. During glycolysis, PEP is metabolized to pyruvate by the enzyme pyruvate kinase. In plants, PEP is involved in both the formation of aromatic amino acids and the carbon fixation pathway.
